Jeanette “Mem” Barton



 



Jeanette Barton 71, of Payne Springs went to be with the Lord on Saturday March 17, 2012. “Jenny” as she was known to her parents, Tom and O’Dell DeMoville, was born May 8, 1940 in San Angelo, TX.



Services are set for Friday, March 23, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Moorhead -Epps Funeral Home in Gun Barrel City, with Bro. Paul McKinney officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday March 22, 2012 from 6-8 PM.



Jeanette was extremely competitive.  “If a man can do it, I can do it better!” She began her fascination with racing in the mid 50’s, when she was the first woman allowed to race in the “Reagan County Kingpins” racing club in Big Lake, TX. At the age of 17, with three children, she served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the club. When she moved to the Cedar Creek Lake area, she resumed her racing career after she rebuilt a 1968 Thunderbird which she raced weekly at the Cedar Creek Drag Way, alongside her husband and her son.


 Jeanette was also very involved with her community, serving as the President of the Eustace Chamber of Commerce, President of the Eustace All Sports Assn., Payne Springs Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in the implantation of Teen Court in Henderson County.


 “Mem” Owner of Cozy Corner Café was best known for her greasy “heart attack” cheeseburgers and chicken fried steaks. Her café served as a second home to the H C Law enforcement agencies!


 She was preceded in death by her parents, son George D.  Barton, Jr., brother John Thomas DeMoville, and sisters, Louise Wyatt and Doris Hill.


 Survived by husband, George D. Barton, Sr, Daughters, Freda Caldwell Baker and husband Gary of Murchison, Chris Key and fiancé Charles Massey of San Angelo, three adopted sons, Eric Eaker and Jacqlyn of Eustace, Buddy Barton of Payne Springs and Barry ”Bubba” Patton and Frances of Odessa. She was blessed with 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.


 Pall bearers will be Barry Patton, Buddy Barton, George D. Barton III, Homer Allred RM Moser, Ricky Patton.
